What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal decompression therapy has been proven with an 86% success rate for neck and low back pains associated with bulging discs. Decompression therapy is a non-surgical traction therapy for the relief of back and leg pain or neck and arm pain. By cycling through distraction and relaxation phases and proper positioning, a spinal disc can be isolated and decompressed causing a vacuum effect to take place within the disc.

What can this vacuum effect do?

From a mechanistic standpoint, disc material that has protruded or herniated outside of the normal space for the disc can be pulled back within the disc by the vacuum effect. Also, this effect stimulates the growth of blood supply and healing properties. This ultimately results in fast pain reduction and proper healing at the injured site.

What machine is used for this purpose?

There are a few different spinal decompression systems available in the united states. After much research, Green Life Chiropractic & Wellness chose the Triton DTS system. This machine is unique and allows us to provide our patients with quality decompression for a fraction of the cost of some of the other machines.

How is Spinal Decompression Therapy

different from regular traction?

The Triton DTS computer is what sets this therapy apart from other forms of spinal traction. It’s programmed with variations in traction allowing for efficient spinal decompression and eliminating muscle reaction and compression that is typical in conventional devices.

Decompression is not indicated with some conditions.

Spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, patients diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, severe obesity, or severe nerve damage. Spinal surgery with hardware can also be contraindicated depending on the circumstances. However, spinal decompression therapy after bone fusion or non-fusion surgery can be performed.

How often and how long does each session last?

Specific treat plans are determined by the treating doctor after your examination and evaluation. Based on current research, the best results are typically achieved utilyzing a protocol of 20 sessions over a 6-7 week period. Each session of spinal decompression therapy can range from 10-30 minutes. We also work with spinal stabilization exercises, adjustments, massage, and core strengthening to further speed up recovery time. In come cases, results can be seen in as little as a few treatments.

Who can benefit from Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Anyone with neck or back pain caused in whole or in part by a damaged or compressed disc may be helped by spinal decompression therapy. These conditions include but aren’t limited to herniated discs, bulging discs, spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve), lumbar rediculopathy, or sciatica.

How much does Spinal Decompression Therapy cost?

If you’ve looked into Spinal Decompression Therapy, you’ll see that many other fascilities are charging $3,000-$5,000 for  just the traction and not including any other rehab or modalities.

Because this is specialized treatment beyond routine chiropractic adjustments and requires additional skill and supervision, the cost is separate from our regular fees.

Some insurance plans will cover the care and some will not. If your insurance does cover the therapy, we will discuss the costs and be happy to bill your insurance on your behalf. We will discuss individually the cost of co-pays and deductibles as needed.

If your insurance does  not cover this treatment, you will quality for our Discounted Cash Fee. The cash fee’s associated with this treatment range from 40-60 dollars per session for the typical 20 visit protocol.
