Manual Therapy Techniques

Are you suffering from chronic back or neck pain? Have you perhaps sustained a sports injury or sciatica? If so, you can greatly benefit from the manual therapy techniques offered at Green Life Chiropractic and Wellness.

Trigger Point Therapy / Myofascial Release

Also known as Trigger Point Therapy or Myofascial Release, manual therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the joints and muscle tissue through strategic hand movements and force application for the purpose of pain relief as well as enhancing or restoring proper range of motion. Through common techniques such as massage and stretching, manual therapy is considered the fundamental element of chiropractic care for everything from back pain to migraines to carpal tunnel syndrome.

The collective term for all of these conditions is myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic disorder resulting from tightness and sensitivity in the myofascial tissues. Myofascial tissues consist of a network of skeletal muscle and connective tissue throughout the body. When excessive strain or injury occurs, the muscles form “trigger points” where the pain originates. This is where Trigger Point Therapy or Myofascial Release comes in:

  • During a massage therapy session, your chiropractor applies light manual pressure to the affected area.
  • The force gradually increases until the trigger point releases the muscle and surrounding tissue from its contracted state, effectively relieving the pressure and pain.

What to Expect with Manual Therapy

In the majority of cases, patients begin to experience relief after the first manual therapy appointment. However, it may take a few sessions before your pain begins to dissipate – depending on the extent of the injury or condition, your overall health condition and level of physical fitness, and much more.
